The Wichita Exploration Place is a 98,500 sq. ft. complex, designed by internationally acclaimed architect Moshe Safdie of Boston, to take maximum advantage of the 20 acre river-front site. It features 4 major indoor theme pavilions, outdoor exhibits, 2 theaters, a simulation center, and a park. It also features a community-built science and arts play yard, retail store, and a café.

Exploring Flight and Design - This 5,000 sq. ft. exhibit contains 30 hands-on experiences related to the design of flying things in nature and those that are man-made. It is a multidisciplinary exhibit area celebrating biology, physics, engineering, and flight in the human imagination.

Exploring Our Only Home - This thematic area is divided into three related areas, Kansas Explorer, KSN WeatherLab, and Kansas in Miniature, offering 35 interactive experiences about the people, places, and environments of Kansas.

Exploring Human Life - This thematic area is divided into three related exhibit areas , Health Explorer, Health Discovery Room, and Tots' Spot , offering 50 unique experiences about human life, health, and lifestyles.

Kids Explore - This 3,000 sq. ft. exhibit contains 20 hands-on experiences set in a fairytale environment where kids and their caregivers can create stories with their own characters and plots together.
